ESL Shipping targets a larger role in renewable energy logistics and appoints a Head of Renewable Energy and Projects

ESL Shipping targets an increasing share of the renewable energy and project cargo market by appointing Juha Ylitalo as Head of Renewable Energy and Project Transportation. He will start in the role on the 1st of November 2023.

Ylitalo_JuhaYlitalo is a former Captain with a long and broad experience in shipping. He has played a central role in maritime logistics for the first Finnish offshore wind farm in Tahkoluoto and has been in charge of various demanding project shipments. During his career, he has served various key players within maritime logistics, most recently Rauma Cata as Head of Sales and Engineering of project shipments.

“Renewable Energy sector grows fast in our home market. The sector will demand various maritime logistics solutions such as groundworks, component deliveries and farm maintenance and service. A new type of technological and commercial thinking will be required and our ambition is to be in the front of this development”, says Timo Pohjakallio, Development Director & Head of BU Handies.

Wind energy will play an important role in the future energy system as the EU aims to increase the share of wind power to 40% of electricity generated by 2050. There is also a significant amount of new offshore wind projects in the pipeline in the Baltic Sea region, especially in Finland and Sweden, where more than 110 GW or over 11,000 units of new offshore wind is currently in the different phases of development.
